How to turn a Word document into a PowerPoint
Apply Heading 1 to each slide title and Heading 2 to its points in Word, then in PowerPoint choose Home, New Slide, Slides from Outline, and pick the file. Word for the web also has an Export to PowerPoint option for Microsoft 365 subscribers. An AI tool such as Sliduno AI is the better fit when the document is long and needs summarising.
Way 1: Slides from Outline
PowerPoint reads Word heading styles: Heading 1 becomes a slide title and Heading 2 a point on that slide. Body text without a heading style is left out, and tables and pictures do not come across. It is free and quick for a document already written as an outline.
Way 2: Export from Word for the web
In Word for the web, choose File, Export, Export to PowerPoint presentation, then pick a design. This needs a Microsoft 365 subscription. Check the result, because long documents are summarised.
Way 3: Build it with an AI tool
In Sliduno AI, upload the .docx, say who the deck is for and how long it should be, and download an editable .pptx. Tables and Word charts with stored data carry over as native PowerPoint objects.
In short
- Apply heading styles. In Word, use Heading 1 for slide titles and Heading 2 for points, then save and close the file.
- Import the outline. In PowerPoint, choose Home, New Slide, Slides from Outline, and select the document.
- Finish the slides. Add a design, then add tables and pictures by hand, since they do not import.
Questions
Why do my Word tables not appear in PowerPoint?
Slides from Outline only imports text in heading styles. Copy tables across by hand, or use a tool that carries them over.
Can Copilot turn a Word document into a PowerPoint?
Copilot in PowerPoint can create a presentation from a Word file if you have a Copilot licence and the file is stored where Copilot can reach it.
